The Cullman Masonic Lodge received its Charter and was legally established in July 1877. Cullman's first Worshipful Master was W. E. James. After serving three terms as the Worshipful Master of the Cullman Lodge, Brother James was elected to the Alabama Grand Lodge line of officers. Brother James was then elected and served in the highest Masonic Office of the State of Alabama.
Brother James also served several terms as an Alabama Senator.
The Masons of Cullman have been meeting every Monday night since 1877. In 1948, after seventy years, the lodge built the building on Second Avenue in which it now meets. The main floor is rented to a local merchant and the fraternity meets on the top floor.
Cullman Chapter No. 35 Order of the Eastern Star meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday at 7:00 P.M. also in the Masonic Lodge.
